After Lago Resort & Casino got the nod from New York regulators, Jimmy Wilmot, a key figure for the $425-million project, announced the operator will start hiring and training casino workers by the summer of 2015.
Mr. Wilmot pointed out that additional checks need to be carried out by the New York State Police and the company needs to get a few more approvals. Only this way, the New York Gaming Commission will be able to grant the license to the operator.
The construction process is expected to start as soon as Lago is finally given the license. The casino is planned to be completed within a year. As for the hotel, it is scheduled to open doors 14 months after the license was obtained.
Mr. Wilmot also said that he expects for the final license to be acquired within a month or two. He and his father, Thomas Wilmot, shared that they were extremely anxious about the decision of the state’s Gaming Commission.
Jimmy Wilmot explained that half of Lago’s customers are expected to be coming from already established gambling venues in New York. But the new casino intends to also attract people who have no previous gambling experience.
Mr. Wilmot also pointed out that he and his colleagues consider competition a good thing, referring to the fact that there are two more casinos in the Finger Lakes region. He promised that they will offer their customers the best possible experience, so as to make sure that they will come back to Lago.
As it was announced, the new development’s business plan includes traffic improvements in the small town of Tyre. Its residents are no more than 900 in total and they are mostly Mennonites and Amish. Mr. Wilmot promised that more traffic signals will be placed on important roads.
What is more, the streets will be widened and there will be special lanes for horse-drawn vehicles and carriages. Mr. Wilmot pointed out that their primary goal is to make the locals feel comfortable with the construction of Lago and the changes that this will bring to its neighbors.
He pointed out that the roads will be much better than they have ever been.
The Lago Casino is planned to feature a large pool area that will easily accommodate at least 900 guests, 85 gaming tables, and 2,000 slot machines. The venue is expected to generate the amount of $263 million in gaming turnover in the first year of its operation.
Wilmot stated that they will start hiring casino workers next summer. The developer will cover the training costs. In addition, wages will be paid towards the end of the training courses.
