According to the Senator, these cafes have a devastating impact on the charitable and veteran organizations.
Kentucky has recently joined the discussions, concerning the negative effect of the online gambling activities on local residents. Mike Wilson confirmed that he supports the idea for banning these kinds of gambling options on the territory of the state he is in charge of.
Needless to say, Wilson’s standpoint caused lots of arguments and he was said to be the only Kentucky official who is not willing to ensure additional income to state’s coffers by giving his consent to online gambling legislation. Instead, he wanted to completely ban it in order to give privileges to the war veterans.
According to information released in Kentucky media, Wilson has pre-filed a bill, called BR229 and it was about to be discussed during the legislative sessions next year.
Another thing that surprised local communities and politicians was the fact that Wilson does not seem too worried about the upcoming online gambling legislation issues. For instance, the casino mogul Sheldon Adelson as well as Harry Reid are really concerned about the legislation but Wilson has decided to dedicate his efforts to limiting the number of cybercafés that provide illegal gambling activities.
According to Wilson, the cybercafés in question pose a setback to the gambling activities that take place due to various charitable purposes and although the veterans are the most affected part of the society, there are other smaller groups, which did not deserve that.
Despite Wilson’s disapproval of online gambling activities, he is not the only politician in Kentucky who has focused on prosecuting cybercafés.
The Governor of Kentucky – Steve Beshear, is also among the supporters of the online gambling prohibition. He announced that he would do his best to close every gambling site, defined as “illegal” on the territory of the state of Kentucky. He also added that all these unregulated forms of gambling take money away from the racetracks.
Unfortunately, December was saturated with bad news, concerning the Kentucky gambling industry. There was a probability a land based casino to be established in the state but the Kentucky Equine Education Project announced that they are no longer willing to back such a venture. Apparently, the main reason why they have suddenly withdrawn their support was the fact that if built, the casino would take players away from the racetracks.
