Daniel Negreanu is a name that even people with basic knowledge in poker and its particularities have heard. True fans of this exciting game, however, are probably well-aware that the Toronto-born player is a proud owner of six WSOP bracelets and has won a total of $29,833,327 from live tournaments.
It seems that Negreanu’s year was quite busy, although he did not take part in as many events as he once used to. He was keen on entering all kinds of tournaments at the beginning of his career. The Canadian joined the world of poker when he was barely 21.
Back in 2014, he played a total of 56 events. The player spent 505.5 hours at the poker table. Negreanu himself shared that now, he prefers quality over quantity or in other words, he would rather enter fewer tournaments and perform well than take part in more than 150 and demonstrate poor performance.
It could be said that 2014 was relatively profitable for the Canadian poker pro. He cashed 13 times and earned $10,284,090.00. The player captured the impressive amount of $8,288,001 for his runner-up finish at the $1,000,000 Big One for One Drop event, held at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas. He also won $1,119,610 at an AU$250,000 No Limit Hold’em event, held in Melbourne, Australia back in February 2014.
Although Negreanu himself claims that he is happy with his choice to take part in fewer live tournaments, this imminently affected his position on the Global Poker Index. He managed to stay in the top 5 for the greater part of the year. But eventually, he ranked 47th. He also finished the year in 146th place in the Card Player Player of the Year race. In addition, Negreanu took 35th place in the Bluff ranking.
On the New Year’s Day, Negreanu posted on his personal blog his resolutions for 2015. The Canadian poker pro is determined to enter no more than 55 live tournaments and to cash at least 12 times. He also wants to make it to at least five final tables and he shared that he will be more than glad to accomplish this in June.
Negreanu said that he intends to put an end to his longish string of runner-up finishes and to win three WSOP bracelets. He will make certain adjustments in his game strategy so as to be able to achieve this ambitious goal.
Speaking of the WSOP, the player aspires to reach and maintain third place on its all-time money list. He is currently taking the fifth position. Negreanu shared his ambitions to become number one in the list within a decade.
