Singaporeans gamblingA survey, which has been carried out recently, shows that Singapore-based players are not so fond of taking part in gambling activities anymore.

According to the above-mentioned survey, conducted by the National Council of Problem Gambling, the percentage of Singaporean players willing to participate in gambling activities decreased to 47%.

Apart from avoiding casino venues, players are no longer eager to bet bigger amounts of money. Four years ago, more than 90% of all Singapore-based players set aside approximately $200 a month for gambling activities while the statistics from the last survey showed much smaller numbers.

The situation is pretty much the same with the larger bets. As much as 0.3% used to bet more than $1,000 per month but their number declined as well.

Bearing in mind the information, gathered through the survey, the decreased number of players has one positive side. Singaporean gambling officials announced that the problem gambling rates have drastically decreased over the last few years to reach the modest 0.7% in 2014.

However, the survey concluded that even if the number of people going to casino venues has declined, the percentage of those described as “pathological gamblers” increased.

In other words, players who are obsessed with gambling took part in such kind of activities at least once a week.

What is more, players prone to gambling addiction start making bets at a very young age. The tendency for having the habit of gambling at least once a week at the age of 18 was considered to be really worrying.

In addition, the results from the survey showed that those who are likely to have a gambling addiction problem found it difficult to control themselves and took part in gambling activities more often than they had to. That applied particularly to those who used the remote gambling options to play table games or slot machines.

People who work with problematic players believe that the reason for their gambling issues stems from the family environment. Nevertheless, a great number of players regretted having spent their money on making bets instead of investing in into something else.

The survey draw communities’ attention to another curious factor, too. The percentage of people who realize that they have a problem and seek help is slowly but surely increasing.

Unfortunately, there is a large number of players who are still hesitating as to whether they need the support of a specialist.

Problem gambling specialists urge Singaporean authorities to launch campaigns aimed at the vulnerable part of the population – namely young people who are still unaware of the dangers excessive gambling could cause. They believe that the increased percentage of young people eager to take part in gambling activities is growing because they are exposed to the negative impact of the social games at a very young age.
