The 2014 British Poker Awards were held last night, February 23, at the Hippodrome Casino in Leicester Square, London. Industry experts, players, and fans of this exciting game gathered for a fifth consecutive year to celebrate the best achievements from the past twelve months.

As previously commented, a group of journalists was given the opportunity to carefully select the nominees. Then, they were announced and it was up to fans to decide who should be awarded.

It could be said without the slightest exaggeration that poker pro Victoria Coren Mitchell was the star of the evening as she won a total of three awards. She has three more collected in previous years.

Mitchell took home the trophies for Poker Personality of the Year, Best Social Media User, and Performance of the Year. Back in April 2014, she triumphed in the EPT Sanremo Main Event where she captured €476,100. This was her second win at an EPT Main Event.

Simon Deadman was another player to take home more than one trophy. The popular poker pro cashed more than $1.1 million from various live tournaments, finished second at a total of six major events, and triumphed in the Hollywood Poker Open in Las Vegas.

He became Best Live Tournament Player and Breakout Player of the Year. The latter award came somehow as a surprise, considering the fact that Deadman has been actively participating in tournaments for quite some time.

Another highlight from the evening was the fact that Chris Moorman won the award for Best Online Player for a fifth consecutive time. He also was voted Player of the Year by fellow poker pros.

Neil Channing, on the other hand, remained empty-handed for the first time in five years. He took the award for Best Blogger in the 2011, 2012, and 2013 ceremonies. In 2010, he was declared Best Cash Player.

As for this year’s Best Blogger, his name is Jake Cody. He has one previous win back from the 2011 edition of the Awards, when he became Best Tournament Poker.

Daniel Negreanu was declared the Best International Player. Unfortunately, Kid Poker could not attend the ceremony and his trophy was accepted by female poker pro and TV presenter Liv Boeree. Negreanu won the prestigious award for the second time. He was put in the same category with Davidi Kitai, Ole Schemion, and Daniel Colman. Some believed that Colman would win the award as he cashed more than $22.3 million back in 2014.
