Day 1B of this year’s Unibet Open Copenhagen Main Event, which is currently taking place at the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel, was completed late last night with Aage Eikeland finishing as a chip leader. The player had 260,000 in chips by the end of the evening.
As it was reported, a total of 236 players entered yesterday’s game. Thus, the overall number of this year’s participants reached 404 (Day 1A of the Main Event saw 168 sitting at the tables).
This year, the prize pool amounts to €389,984. Of these, the winner will be awarded the sum of €83,115. In addition, 45 more players will be paid at least €2,011.
Some well-known poker players took part in yesterday’s game. The winner of the 2014 Unibet Open Copenhagen, Frederik Brink Jensen, was among those. However, last year’s champion, who had also previously won an EPT event, was eliminated in Level 7.
Quentin Lecomte, who won the Unibet Open Cannes back in 2013, was also seen leaving the tournament. The Unibet Poker Pro was eliminated in Level 10.
Sports journalist Rikard Åberg was also among the entrants in the yesterday’s event. However, he, too, could not make it to Day 2, after he was defeated in Level 10.
One of the highlights of Day 1B was the participation of YouTube, Twitch, and Twitter star Sam “strippin” Thorne. It turned out that he was a complete newbie to the world of poker, but was invited by the tournament’s organizers due to his popularity on social media. Thus, they hoped that the event will attract the attention of an even wider audience. And it did, indeed.
Reportedly, Thorne did quite well for someone who has never played poker before. He managed through all the ten one-hour levels and will return today for Day 2 of the Main Event. Thorne will start the day with 97,500 in chips.
Speaking of chips, Day 1B ended with Aage Eikeland as a chip leader, The player had a total of 260,000 in chips by the end of the day. He was followed by Kristo Gavazov with 223,600 and Tiago Santos with 211,200.
Day 2 of the Main Event is set to start today at 12:00 (local time). It will see a total of 137 players returning from the previous two days.
As for Day 3 of the tournament, it is scheduled to kick off tomorrow at 14:00 (local time).
