The nominees for the 14th annual GPI European Poker Awards have just been revealed. As previously reported, the event is to take place on March 25 at the Portomaso Marina Hilton Hotel in St. Julians, Malta.

The nominees in most of the categories were determined by a specially appointed nomination panel. Organizers pointed out that the panel consists of some of the most prominent poker experts with years of experience in the field. They all were asked to provide no more than two names for each of categories. The winners will be determined by a Jury and will be announced at the ceremony.

In fact, the names of the GPI Player of the Year and the GPI Female Player of the Year have already been revealed, as the winners are determined by means of GPI’s scoring formula. Ole Schemion and Liv Boeree are the European players that have accumulated the most points throughout the year.

And here are the nominees in the rest of the categories.

Remko Rinkema, Lee Davy, Marc Convey, and Giovanni Angioni were nominated for Media Person of the Year. This particular award aims at celebrating that European media personality that has been most active in media during the past year.

The nominees for Industry Person of the Year are Edgar Stuchly, President of EPT, Leon Tsoukernik, owner of King’s Casino, Rob Young, owner of Dusk Till Dawn, and Hermance Blum, General Manager of WPT Europe.

Jack Salter, Oliver Price, Dominik Panka, and George Danzer are contending for the Breakout Player of the Year award.

The nominees in the Tournament Performance of the Year category are Victoria Coren Mitchell for winning the EPT San Remo Main Event, Martin Jacobson for finishing first at the WSOP Main Event, Dominik Panka for triumphing in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event and Davidi Kitai for his first place in the WSOP Event #15.

The Event of the Year category has two sub-categories – one for an event with a buy-in fee amounting to $2,000 or less and one for an event with a buy-in fee over $2,000. The nominees in the first sub-category are the EPT Prague Main Event, the EPT Barcelona Main Event, the EPT Vienna Main Event, and the Master Classics of Poker Amsterdam. The nominees in the latter category are the Battle of Malta, the WPT500 at Dusk Till Dawn, the Eureka Poker Tour Prague Main Event, and the Estrellas Poker Tour Barcelona Main Event.

This year, too, the award for Poker Innovation or Initiative of the Year will be presented to a single European contributor or a whole organization that has introduced an innovation or initiative aimed at serving the poker industry in the best possible manner. And the nominees in this category are Winamax Poker’s Expresso, PokerStars’ Shark Cage, Unibet’s gaming platform, the WPT500 Events and the WPT’s expansion to new European markets.

An award for Charitable Initiative of the Year will also be given. And the nominees in this category are the Helping Hands Charity Tournament, Raising for Effective Giving (REG), Right to Play, a Quintessentially Foundation’s initiative in partnership with PokerStars, and the WPT UK Charity Raffle.

The EPT Live Commentary, Victor Saumont’s documentary Nosebleed, Neil Stoddart’s photography, and Remko Rinkema’s videography are the nominees in the Poker Media Content of the Year category.

Poker’s Best Ambassador is the only category that will be voted by the public. It aims at celebrating the European poker player that has contributed most to the promotion of the game of poker during 2014.

And, last but not least, an award for Lifetime Achievement in Poker will be bestowed on an European player that has significantly helped for the popularization of poker throughout his or her career. The winner will be determined solely by the Jury and will be announced at the ceremony.
