RGT Announces New Remote Gambling Research Program

News

The Responsible Gambling Trust has issued a call for tender for a new research program related to remote gambling and the behavior of people who engage in such activities. The program in question involves several different projects. Their funding was estimated at £500,000 and they will need a year and a half to be completed.

The primary goal of RGT is to inform UK-based consumers about the potential risks remote gambling poses. Experts will study industry-related data, in order to be able to indicate certain behavioral patterns that might point to gambling addictions. What is more, people will be provided with comprehensive information on how they could avoid such harms.

Several remote gambling operators have already expressed interest in taking part in the project.

RGT pointed out that the call for tender has been issued so as for all the companies that would like to participate in the research program to be able to file their applications before April 24. The organization also stated that it is open to suggestions on how the project should be carried out.

According to RGT, research applicants do not necessarily need to deal with gambling-related data or behavioral analytics. Interested parties that can come up with ideas for the minimization of the risks that remote gambling poses to the residents of the United Kingdom can also take part in the project.

Marc Etches, CEO of RGT, commented on the research program as their way to help people avoid gambling-related problems. He said he hopes the new project will be yet another proof that the UK is among the countries that pay special attention to responsible gambling and its research.

Professor Jo Wolff, Chairman of the RGT’s Research Committee, promised that the program will be free from any industry influence, as the organization is headed only by independent trustees. He said that the tender was issued so as to reach wider audience and to attract experienced researchers. Thus, the final results will be “truly meaningful”, as he pointed out.

The Responsible Gambling Trust is an independent UK-based charity, which aims at minimizing the risks from gambling. It is primarily funded by gambling operators and it raises more than £5 million annually. The money is used for funding various programs related to the prevention and the treatment of gambling addictions.

Apart from informing communities how to avoid gambling-related problems, RGT also makes sure that people who show symptoms of gambling addictions receive the most effective treatment.
