Florida Residents Support Seminole Tribe Compact Renewal

News

According to the information released by representatives of the Seminole Tribe of Florida, state citizens approve of the agreement that is to be inked between the tribe and the Florida gambling officials.

A poll conducted among 600 residents shows that the majority of them support the above-mentioned renewal agreement. If such an agreement is not signed, the Seminoles will be prohibited from offering table games within the premises of their casino.

The study also shows that half of the interviewed Floridians have a favorable opinion about the tribe and the gambling services it provides. Those who have a positive attitude towards the Seminoles form 56% of the interviewed residents. However, Neil Newhouse, a co-founder of Public Opinion Strategies, said that the percentage is so low because some people could not give a precise answer to the question.

The question about the agreement renewal comes just on time as the previous one is about to expire at the end of July and the tribe is supposed to remove the blackjack games from the casino venues it manages.

In point of fact, such an outcome would have a devastating effect on the gambling sector of Florida as the Seminoles are managing several casinos that take pride in being quite profitable.

Although the authorities have not announced their final decision yet, people with knowledge on the matter reassured that they will give the nod to the compact renewal. However, it has to be reviewed on several stances.

In the meantime, the Rep. Dana Young proposed the establishment of two casinos in South Florida and the availability of slot machines in Palm Beach County. Yet, the proposal is not going to be well perceived by the Seminoles’ supporters. Things would be different if the Seminole tribe was mentioned in the proposal, though. Plus, local officials think that it would hurt Florida’s reputation as a family-friendly state.

The renewal of the Seminoles license has also been backed by major Florida businesses. What is more, a few days ago, it was announced that as soon as the compact receives the necessary approval, they will consider the opportunity for expanding their business.

Speaking of the agreement renewal, it is believed to keep the local economy stable and prevent 3,000 people from losing their jobs. If the idea for opening more casino venues comes true, more workforce will be needed, which will, therefore, further boost the economy.
