Steven Gurney-Goldman Wins 2015 HPO Grantville $1,115 Main Event

The two-day 2015 Hollywood Poker Open Grantville $1,115 Main Event was completed a few hours ago. It attracted a total of 92 players, of whom only 9 were paid. Day 2 of the event saw 18 players returning so as for the champion to be determined. His name is Steven Gurney-Goldman and he received $29,342 of the entire prize pool and the special tournament trophy.

Ten players sat at the final table and it began in Level 16 with poker pro Chris Moneymaker as the chip leader with 365,000. He was closely followed by Jeremy Cline with 350,000. Ken Moore was third with 282,000.

The first elimination came two levels later, when Matt Mahek was defeated by Kent Bitzer. He was the last player to leave the event without being paid.

Greg Davis was eliminated in ninth place towards the end of Level 18. The player received the amount of $3,485. It took one more level before another one was gone. In Level 20, Michael Nolan left the final table after he could not hold up against Anatoly Podolsky.

Poker pro Chris Moneymaker, who was the favorite for the title, was the next to go after a tough three-handed play with Podolsky and Cline. The player received $4,402 for his seventh place.

Forty minutes later, Moneymaker was followed by Rob Brown, who was defeated by the soon-to-be-champion. Brown took home a bit more than $5,000. Shortly before the end of Level 21, Jeremy Cline, too, left the final table.

The next elimination came in Level 23 with Kent Bitzer busting Ken Moore. The latter received $8,712 for his fourth place.

Thus, there were only three players at the final table – Steven Gurney-Goldman, Kent Bitzer, and Anatoly Podolsky. It was actually Podolsky who left next after he was eliminated by Gurney-Goldman. The player was paid $12,013 for being among the final three.

The heads-up play started with Gurney-Goldman as the chip leader with 1,300,000. His opponent Bitzer had 540,000 in chips.

The last hand occurred towards the end of Level 23. Bitzer had [As][2c] against Gurney-Goldman’s [4s][4c]. The board ran out [4h][10d][6d][10s][6s] and that was the end for Bitzer.

He took home the sum of $18,340 for his runner-up finish. As for Gurney-Goldman, he was awarded the first-place prize of $29,342 and the tournament trophy. The player has a little more than $100,000 in live earnings with his latest winning being his best live cash so far.
