Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission Posts March Casino Revenue

The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission released a report on the financial performance of the state’s eighteen gambling venues in March. According to latest data, revenue increased from February and decreased compared to the figures posted this time last year.

At present, there are three racinos and fifteen casinos operating on the territory of Iowa. The state’s gambling regulator reported overall gross gaming revenue of $126.2 million for March. By comparison, the total amount of $115.5 million was generated in February. However, Iowa’s gaming revenue marked a year-over-year decrease, as it amounted to $130 million in March 2014.

Currently, as many as 492 table games are offered at the state’s casinos and racinos. Revenue from those totaled $12.6 million in March compared to $12 million in February. In March 2014, Iowa’s gambling venues featured as many as 475 table games. Yet, revenue of $12.7 million was posted back then.

Revenue from slot machines amounted to $113.6. million in March, up almost $10 million as compared to the figures reported the previous month. It is interesting to note that the state’s gambling venues featured 17,302 machines in February compared to 17,270 in March. Revenue, however, dropped year-over-year, as the amount of $117.3 million was posted in March 2014. A total of 17,550 machines were offered on the territory of Iowa this time last year.

Average daily win per slot machine at the state’s gambling venues amounted to $212 compared to $214 in February, and $228 in March 2014. Average daily win per table game amounted to $828 compared to $856 in February, and $934 in March 2014.

Iowa’s eighteen gambling facilities contributed the amount of $25.9 million to the state’s coffers in March. By comparison, as much as $23.7 million was generated in tax revenue in February. The state received the amount of $26.7 million this time last year.

Prairie Meadows Racetrack & Casino was Iowa’s top performer. The Altoona-based venue, which features 50 table games and 2,061 slot machines, posted gross gaming revenue of $16.7 million in March.

Lady Luck Casino in Marquette was the one to generate the least. Currently, the casino offers to its visitors 8 table games and 541 slot machines. March revenue at the venue totaled $2.5 million.
