Maryland Reports Increase in April Casino Revenue

The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency posted information about the financial performance of the state’s five casinos in April. Maryland’s gambling venues generated revenue of $88.9 million last month.

Including Horseshoe Casino Baltimore, which opened doors in August 2014, the state’s April revenue grew by 24.5% year-on-year, but decreased almost $2 million month-over-month. Without this particular casino, however, revenue dropped 7.6% year-on-year.

Hollywood Casino Perryville generated the amount of $6.9 million, down 10.7% compared to April 2014. The venue offers to visitors 850 slot machines, as well as 12 banking and 10 non-banking table games. Slot machines at the casino contributed an average of $225.82 per unit per day, banking table games contributed $2,783.83, and non-banking table games contributed $381.74.

Horseshoe Casino Baltimore, which, as already mentioned opened doors in August 2014, posted gaming revenue of $22.9 million in April. The casino operates as many as 2,193 slot machines, as well as 154 banking and 25 non-banking table games. Slot machines generated an average of $185.41 per unit per day, banking table games generated $2,170.59, and non-banking ones contributed $953.87.

Revenue at Maryland Live! Casino totaled $50.9 million in April. It decreased 9.8% or $5.6 million compared to the same month a year ago. The gambling venue features a total of 3,996 slot machines, 137 banking and 52 non-banking table games. Revenue per unit per day during the previous month amounted to $264.73 for the casino’s slot machines, $4,193.44 for its banking table games, and $1,264.48 for the non-banking table games.

Casino at Ocean Downs in Berlin, which operates as many as 800 slot machines, posted gaming revenue of $4.3 million, up 18.4% from what was generated in April 2014. The casino’s slot machines generated an average of $178.94 per unit per day.

Rocky Gap Casino Resort in Cumberland posted an 8% increase in revenue to $3.9 million. The venue features 577 slot machines, as well as 15 banking and 2 non-banking table games. Slot machines generated an average of $191.12 per unit per day. Banking table games contributed $1,334.8 per unit per day, and non-banking ones contributed $308.7.

Generally speaking, Maryland’s five casinos generated the total amount of $347.8 million since the beginning of the calendar year.

The state is expected to have its sixth casino launched sometime in 2016. The so-called MGM National Harbor, which is currently under construction, is to feature 3,600 slot machines and 140 table games. The project was estimated to cost about $1.2 billion.
