Sheraz Nasir Wins partypoker WPT Canadian Spring Championship

The 2015 partypoker World Poker Tour Canadian Spring Championship, which took place at the Playground Poker Club in Montreal, was completed last night with Sheraz Nasir from Alberta as its winner. The player took down a field of 370 entries to capture the first-place prize of C$237,390 and the tournament trophy.

Day 5 of the event saw 6 players returning for the final table. It started with Trevor Delaney as the chip leader. He held a total of 3,190,000 in chips. The player was followed by Nasir with 2,685,000 and Lu Zhang with 2,500,000. Gary Lucci (1,205,000), Levi Stevens (765,000), and Dylan Wilkerson (740,000) were the other three players to be seated at the final table.

The action resumed from Level 25 at noon local time on Wednesday. The first elimination came soon after play began. Wilkerson was busted in 6th place by Stevens. He took home C$47,470 of the prize pool.

Shortly before the end of Level 25, Lu Zhang, the only female player at the final table, defeated Delaney. His 5th place secured him with C$59,340.

Level 26 saw Zhang as the chip leader with 4,785,000. She was followed by Nasir with 3,245,000. The next elimination came towards the end of Level 27. Lucci could not hold up against Zhang and was busted in 4th place for C$79,130. Level 28 saw Stevens go. He, too, fell victim to Zhang and was paid the amount of C$106,820 for his 3rd place in the event.

Stevens’ elimination marked the beginning of the heads-up play. Although it started with Nasir as the chip leader, Zhang managed to catch up and even take the lead twice. It took five more levels before the last hand occurred. Zhang held [As][2c] against her opponent’s [2s][2d]. The board ran out [Jd][6s][3s][6h] and Nasir bet 500,000. Zhang shoved all in and Nasir called. The river came [7d] and nothing changed for both players.

Zhang received C$166,402 of the prize pool for her second place, and the champion was awarded C$237,390. After winning the WPT Canadian Spring Championship, Nasir’s winnings from live tournaments amount to a little more than $260,000.

Last fall, the player finished 7th at the Deepstacks Poker Tour C$1,500 No-Limit Hold’em Main Event for C$14,770 ($13,284), and 10th at the C$3,500 + 350 No-Limit Hold’em WPT Montreal event for C$33,080 ($29,189).
