The first-ever WPT Amsterdam tournament, hosted by Holland Casino, is entering its final stage. The six-handed final table of the €3,300 Main Event is to start today at 2:00 pm local time.
The event attracted a total of 341 players who created a prize pool of €992,310. The champion is to receive the amount of €215,000. Those who finish 2nd and 3rd will be paid €150,000 and €90,000, respectively.
As mentioned above, Day 4 of the Main Event will see 6 players returning to be seated at the final table. It will start with Steve Warburton from the UK as the chip leader. Up to now, the player has 2,810,000 in chips. He is followed by Fredrik Andersson from Sweden with 2,195,000 and Dutchman Joep van den Bijgaart with 1,650,000. In fact, the latter is among the favorites for the title.
Bijgaart’s fellow countryman Kees van Brugge (1,270,000), Farid Yachou (1,195,000), and WPT Amsterdam €6,000 High Roller winner Jason Wheeler (1,095,000) are the other three players who will be trying to capture the title and the first-place prize.
Players like Canadian poker pro Sorel Mizzi, as well as former WPT champions Dominik Nitsche and Yevgeny Timoshenko were among those who could not make it to the final table.
Day 3 chip leader Steve Warburton has cashed in about 30 events so far. The UK-based player could occasionally be spotted at UKIPT and Genting Poker Series tournaments. Last year, he was seen at the 45th WSOP in Las Vegas, where he cashed in two No-Limit Hold’em events. However, this is the first time that he has made it to the money in a WPT event.
Warburton’s biggest live tournament winning amounts to £39,000 ($65,084). He got it for finishing 3rd at the 2014 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour £1,000 + 80 No-Limit Hold’em Main Event. Overall, his live tournament earnings total $300,778. Being among the chip leaders of the WPT Amsterdam Main Event, the player has every chance to almost double up this amount.
As already mentioned, action resumes at 2:00 local time. Apart from winning the first-place prize of €215,000, the champion will also secure a seat into the WPT Season XIV Championship, which is to be held next spring.
The WPT will next be heading to Las Vegas for an exciting WPT500 tournament at the Aria Resort & Casino, presented by partypoker.
