Farid Yachou Wins WPT Amsterdam €3,300 Main Event

The first-ever WPT Amsterdam was completed late last night with Netherlands-based Farid Yachou topping a field of 341 entries to win the €3,300 Main Event. The player received the amount of €215,000 of the entire prize pool for his debut on the felt.

As mentioned above, the Main Event attracted 341 participants who created a prize pool of €992,310. The money was distributed among the top 45 players. Popular poker pros such as Sorel Mizzi, Steve O’Dwyer, and Felix Stephensen, who finished 2nd in last year’s WSOP Main Event, were among those who received a portion of the prize pool.

The last day of the WPT Amsterdam Main Event saw 6 players returning for the final table. It started with Steve Warburton holding the majority of chips. The player had a total of 2,810,000. He was followed by Fredrik Andersson with 2,195,000 and Joep van den Bijgaart with 1,650,000.

The first elimination came on Hand #10 in Level 25, when Yachou busted WPT Amsterdam €6,000 High Roller winner Jason Wheeler in 6th place. The player was paid €41,260 of the entire prize pool.

It took 22 hands and one more level before another one left the final table. On Hand #32, Warburton eliminated van den Bijgaart. He took home the amount of €51,000 for his 5th place.

Shortly after the beginning of Level 27, Andersson was defeated by Kees van Brugge. His portion of the prize pool amounted to €68,000. After Andersson’s elimination, there were only three players left at the final table, with Warburton as the chip leader. He held a total of 4,600,000 in chips, followed by van Brugge with 2,830,000 and Yachou with 2,800,000.

It took 74 more hands before another player was seen leaving the final table. In Level 30, van Brugge was busted in 3rd place by Warburton. The Dutchman received €90,000 of the prize pool.

The heads-up play between Warburton and Yachou started with the first as the chip leader. The British player had 5,420,000 in chips against his opponent’s 4,795,000.

Hand #162, which turned out to be the last one, occurred in Level 30. Yachou held [6d][6h] against Warburton’s [As][8c]. The latter moved all-in and Yachou called instantly. The board ran out [3s][4d][9c][4s][3h] and the name of the champion became clear.

Warburton was paid €150,000 for his runner-up finish. As for Yachou, he was awarded the amount of €215,000 and the tournament trophy. He also secured a seat into the WPT Season XIV Championship.
