Sorel Mizzi Enters Top 10 of the GPI Player of the Year Ranking

Not many changes were registered in this week’s update of both the GPI and the GPI Player of the Year rankings. American Scott Seiver topped the first leaderboard for the fourth consecutive week with a total of 3,970.10 points. As for the latter ranking, Polish player Dzmitry Urbanovich has been at its top for quite some time now. Up to date, he has 3,380.70 points.

Speaking of the GPI Player of the Year leaderboard, Canadian player Sorel Mizzi entered its Top 10. At present, he has a total of 2,136.93 points. Over the past three months, the player dropped out of Top 100 of the ranking to climb 90 positions and reach his current 10th place.

Mizzi is among those players that every self-respecting poker fan is familiar with. Up to now, he has won a total of $11,079,536 from various live tournaments. The Canadian is 4th in his country’s money list and 23rd in the all time money list. He received his largest live cash of $2,073,868 in June 2013, when he finished 3rd in the GuangDong Asia Millions HK$1,000,000 No-Limt Hold’em Main Event.

Other major achievements are his 3rd place in the 2010 Aussie Millions Poker Championship A$10,000 + 500 No-Limit Hold’em Main Event for A$715,000 ($659,917), his 1st place in the 2011 WPT Rendez-Vous à Paris €15,000 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller Event for €234,495 ($338,225), his runner-up finish in the 2014 Aussie Millions Poker Championship A$10,600 No-Limit Hold’em Main Event for A$1,000,000 ($874,837), etc.

Furthermore, Mizzi has won more than $1 million since the beginning of 2015. In January, he finished 4th in the PCA $97,000 + 3,000 #1 No-Limit Hold’em Super High Roller 8-Handed, where he was paid $659,400. In March, he scored yet another 4th place, this time at the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Stars $7,100 + 400 No-Limit Hold’em Main Event for $310,060.

The player could also be spotted at the EPT Season 11 Grand Final, which took place in Monaco earlier this month. There, he cashed €12,000 ($13,400) in the €5,000 + 300 No-Limit Hold’em 8-Handed event, and €51,600 ($57,514) in the €25,000 + 500 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller 8-Handed event.

Apart from his live tournament achievements, Mizzi is also an active online player. In 2010, he inked a sponsorship deal with Titanbet Poker, becoming leader of its Team Titan. Since then, the player could be spotted in the online poker room under the screen name ‘Imper1um’. Mizzi is also popular online under the screen name ‘zangbezan24’.

A few days ago, the Canadian scored his second SCOOP title. He topped a field of 986 players to capture the amount of $364,960 in Event #3: $2,100 (H) No-Limit Hold’em, his biggest online cash so far. Mizzi got his first ever SCOOP title back in 2014.
