Canadian player Sam Greenwood became the latest bracelet winner after he topped the field of the $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em or Event #22 in the 46th Annual WSOP schedule. He emerged victorious over all 1,915 entries to capture the piece of jewelry and the amount of $318,977, his biggest WSOP cash so far.
All 1,915 entries created a prize pool of $1,723,500, but only those who took the top 197 places received a portion of the money.
It took Greenwood about 8 hours to emerge victorious over the rest of his opponents at the nine-handed final table. As for the heads-up play, it lasted about 3 hours and the eventual champion had to face Cole Jackson from Seattle, Washington. Greenwood was holding 5,200,000 in chips at the beginning against his opponent’s 4,500,000.
On Hand #117, or the last one in play, Jackson bet 160,000 and Greenwood called. The board showed [2h][6h][6d] on the flop. Jackson bet 150,000 and his opponent raised to 400,000. The turn came [5s] and Greenwood bet 575,000. Jackson moved all-in and his opponent called instantly. Greenwood tabled [Jd][6s] and Jackson showed [Ad][10s]. The river came [Qh] and the latter was eliminated in 2nd place for $197,254 of the prize pool.
As for Greenwood, he collected his 15th WSOP cash. Now, his career WSOP earnings amount to $424,805. His overall winnings from live tournaments total $1,434,204. Apart from his appearances at Series events, the player has also taken part and cashed in a number of EPT, WPT, PCA, and other prestigious tournaments over the past 7 years.
Ken Weinstein from Chatham, New Jersey made his 2nd WSOP final table appearance to finish 3rd and scoop the amount of $136,380.
James Dorrance from Hershey, Pennsylvania took 4th place for $98,360. John Myung from Washington, DC finished 5th and took home $71,904. The player has cashed in a total of 31 WSOP events so far.
Sean Rice from Cherry Hill, New Jersey was paid $53,256 for his 6th place. This was his second final table appearance at this year’s WSOP. A few days ago, he finished 8th in the Turbo No-Limit Hold’em event.
Aaron Belardo from Newry, Maine took 7th place to pick up $39,967, his first-ever WSOP cash. Robert Hsu from Plano, Texas also cashed in a WSOP event for the very first time. The player finished 8th to collect the amount of $30,385.
Canadian Jay Dragland rounded up the final table. He received $23,387 of the entire prize pool for his 9th place.
