New York-based poker pro Phil Galfond captured his second WSOP gold bracelet a few hours ago, as he won the $10,000 No-Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball Championship or Event #29 in this year’s WSOP schedule.

The event attracted 77 of the world’s top specialists in this particular poker variation. They created a prize pool of $723,800 and the first 14 finishers received a portion of it. Apart from the gold bracelet, the winner was also awarded $224,383 in prize money. Thus, his career WSOP winnings now total $2,156,473.

As mentioned above, Galfond emerged victorious over some of the best poker players in the world. Aside from him, there were three other former bracelet winners at the eight-handed final table – Erik Seidel, who holds 8 of the prestigious pieces of WSOP jewelry, as well as Nick Schulman and Eli Elezra, each holding 2 of those.

And it was Schulman that Galfond faced in one final heads-up play. It started with the first holding 3 times more chips than his opponent. Here it is important to note that Schulman captured both his bracelets by winning that same event in 2009 and 2012.

Galfond managed to even the chips quite early and from that moment on, he chipped away at his opponent until he obtained all of the chips in play.

The last hand occurred with Galfond raising to 50,000 and Schulman moving all-in. Galfond called after a few minutes of deliberation. Then, Schulman discarded one and his opponent did the same.

Schulman showed [9x][6x][4x][3x] against Galfond’s [8x][6x][5x][2x]. Eventually, the latter turned [7x] as his last card. Schulman, in turn, flipped [Ax]. The player received $138,665 for his second place.

As for Galfond, he added $224,383 to his poker bankroll. Up to now, the player has collected a total of $2,303,737 in live tournament earnings. His biggest live cash amounts to $817,781 and he received it for finishing first in the $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha event back in 2008. He can also be spotted online under the screen name ‘OMGClayAiken’.

Dan Smith from Las Vegas, Nevada finished 3rd in the $10,000 No-Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball Championship to collect his 21st WSOP cash of $87,898.

Eight-time bracelet winner Erik Seidel from Henderson, Nevada took 4th place for $59,532. Jon Turner, yet another Henderson-based player, finished 5th to scoop the amount of $42,298.

Eli Elezra, who has captured 2 bracelets so far, received $31,463 for his 6th place. Adam Owen from the UK finished 7th for $24,457. Rounding up the final table, Bernard Lee from Wayland, Massachusetts took home $19,824 for his 8th place in the event.
