Day 23 of the 46th Annual WSOP has been completed with Pennsylvania-based poker pro Paul Volpe still topping the 2015 GPI WSOP Player of the Year leaderboard. The player has been ranking 1st for exactly two weeks now and has collected a total of 1258.56 points since the beginning of this year’s edition of the Series.
After the end of Day 23, a halfway point in the 2015 WSOP, was completed, Mike Gorodinsky climbed 9 positions in the ranking to take 2nd place. The player is hot on Volpe’s heels, as he currently has 1240.08 points. With that said, Gorodinsky is standing only 18 points behind the ranking’s leader.
Gorodinsky’s considerable climb could be attributed to his 3rd place in the $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em 6-Handed, which was completed late on June 18. The player not only captured his biggest live cash of $246,867, but also scooped 407.90 GPI points.
Apart from the No-Limit Hold’em 6-Handed, the Missouri-based player has cashed in three other events since the beginning of the WSOP. Firstly, he finished 28th in the $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em for $11,523 and 212.37 points. Next, he took 2nd place in the $10,000 Razz Championship facing poker legend Phil Hellmuth in a heads-up play. Gorodinsky captured the amount of $167,517 and 390.52 points for his runner-up finish. He also finished 9th in the $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship for $23,463 and 229.23 points.
The Russian-born player has cashed only in WSOP events over the past two years. In 2013, Gorodinsky captured his first and only gold bracelet for topping the field of the $2,500 Omaha/Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo. He also scooped $216,988 of the entire prize pool.
Overall, the player has a total of 11 career WSOP cashes and has collected $904,579 from various Series events over the past 6 years. As for his total live tournament earnings, those amount to $1,246,112 at present. He is 4th in Missouri’s all time money list and 974th in the general all time money list.
Gorodinsky is taking 728th place after this week’s update of the GPI ranking. He has collected 1,108.56 points since the beginning of this calendar year. As for the GPI Player of the Year leaderboard, the poker pro ranks 280th with 832.12 points.
