Crown Resorts Reveals More Details about Sydney Casino Project

News

Crown Resorts, one of Australia’s major gambling operators, submitted to the New South Wales Department of Planning a 411-page design plan for its project for an integrated resort in Barangaroo, Sydney. Crown Sydney, as it is referred to, would be a 275-meter-high building and its construction is expected to cost up to A$2 billion.

The filing was submitted as part of the company’s application for a building approval from the state planning department.

Crown Resorts owner James Packer said in an interview for local media that the hotel and casino tower will be topped with a luxury three-story sky villa. In addition, a penthouse with five bedrooms will also be among the property’s features. Mr. Packer commented that the penthouse would be sold for about A$100 million.

Crown Sydney would be the city’s first six-star integrated hotel and casino resort. The property is intended to attract more visitors and high-roller players from Asia and China, in particular. Crown Resorts said in its filing to the planning department that at present the city’s hotels cannot compete with those in Asia. This is why it is determined to build a complex that would draw wealthy visitors and thus, contribute tax revenue to Sydney and the state.

According to initial estimates, Crown Sydney would create more than 3,000 new jobs once completed. In addition, a net economic benefit of more than A$638 million would be generated by the resort.

The property’s ground floor is planned to feature a number of food and beverage as well as retail options. On levels 29 to 33, there will be 25 hotel villas, with the largest ones being 238 square meters in size. Apart from as many as 350 hotel rooms, the complex would also offer 66 apartments, which will be intended for private owners.

As mentioned above, the two-story, five-bedroom penthouse, which would be on levels 63-64, would sell for A$100 million, thus turning into Sydney’s most expensive apartment.

The two “VIP sky gaming” floors will be located 100 meters above ground. Crown Resorts said that those would be competitive to the casinos in Macau, Singapore, and Las Vegas. They will be intended for wealthy players from the Asia-Pacific region.

Last but not least, the three-story villa would sit more than 260 meters above ground. It would be located on levels 67-69.

Construction on the multi-million-dollar property is yet to commence. In fact, Crown Resorts is more than a year behind schedule due to a court battle between developer Lend Lease and the Barangaroo Delivery Authority. The dispute has recently been solved, but the gambling operator has not been permitted to begin construction.
