With the completion of the EPT Season 12 Barcelona poker festival, there was quite a lot of movement in the GPI leaderboard over the past week. However, the traditional Wednesday update of the world’s most prestigious poker ranking shows Jason Mercier still taking 1st place with 4,245.59 points, closely followed by Anthony Zinno with 4,026.49 points and Byron Kaverman with 3,982.06 points.
A notable player to return to top 20 of the leaderboard was UK poker pro Jack Salter. He climbed 14 positions to rank 20th this week with as many as 3,352.67 points. The player also reached his best career GPI Player of the Year rank. This week, he is 24th with 2,827.57 points. Salter has had quite a busy and relatively profitable year. He had 17 in-the-money finishes at EPT, Aussie Millions Poker Championship, WSOP, and other prestigious events.
In January, the player finished runner-up to Senh Man Ung in the Aussie Millions Poker Championship A$5,000 No-Limit Hold’em 6-Max event for A$85,850 ($66,709). In March, Salter took 5th place in the 2015 L.A. Poker Classic $50,000 No-Limit Hold’em Turbo High Roller for a payout totaling $153,450.
Later on, the English player appeared in the inaugural EPT Season 11 Malta festival, where he cashed in two events. First, he finished 2nd in the €5,200 No-Limit Hold’em event taking home the amount of €79,500 ($85,998). Next, he captured €18,500 ($20,278) for a 5th place in the €1,650 No-Limit Hold’em 6-Max.
Salter’s next major payout amounted to €90,000 ($101,028) and he collected it for his 2nd place in the WPT Amsterdam €6,000 High Roller.
During the EPT Season 12 Barcelona, which was completed earlier this week, the Englishman cashed in as many as 3 events. First, he topped the field of the €1,000 No-Limit Hold’em Turbo for €44,910 ($49,655). Next, he finished 2nd in the €2,200 No-Limit Hold’em to scoop €132,054 ($152,039) of the entire prize pool. And last, he received €47,100 ($53,191) for his 16th place in the €10,300 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller 8-Max.
Currently, Salter’s live tournament winnings amount to $2,781,724. The player captured his largest-ever cash in 2014, when he almost won the EPT Season 10 Grand Final €10,600 Main Event. However, he finished runner-up to Italian Antonio Buonanno to capture the amount of €765,000 ($1,058,369) of the €6.5 million prize pool.
