Shannon Shorr Moves Up in GPI Player of the Year Ranking

Lifestyle

Nothing or almost nothing changed in top 10 of the GPI Player of the Year leaderboard after its traditional Wednesday update. There was no movement in top 8, and Joe Kuether climbed 8 positions to rank 9th and Stephen Chidwick dropped one position and took 10th place.

Anthony Zinno tops the ranking for a fourth consecutive week with 4,461.20 points followed by Byron Kaverman with 4,292.41 points and Nicholas Petrangelo with 4,076.11 points.

Alabama-based poker player Shannon Shorr was among the notables that climbed in the leaderboard after its update. Last week, he took 29th place and moved up one position to rank 28th with a total of 2,807.39 points.

Shorr is quite a profitable poker professional with live tournament winnings of $6,000,420. The player had his first live cash back in 2006, when he finished 4th in the Crown Australian Poker Championship $10,500 Main Event and collected A$271,700 ($199,129) of the entire prize pool. Since then, he has made 142 in-the-money finishes, which is quite an accomplishment itself.

His career best live cash amounted to $960,690. Shoor received it in August 2006 for topping the field of the Bellagio Cup $10,300 No-Limit Hold’em. In fact, the player won one more event over the course of that same poker festival. He emerged victorious in the $1,080 No-Limit Hold’em for a first-place prize of $126,585. In 2008, the player won yet another Bellagio event – the Bellagio Cup IV $3,120 No-Limit Hold’em to scoop the amount of $247,555.

Apart from his more than excellent performance at Bellagio poker festivals, Shorr has performed quite well in WSOP events as well, although he has not won a gold bracelet yet. For instance, he finished 3rd in the 2012 WSOP $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em Six-Handed for $455,362. In 2008, he took 2nd place in the 39th Annual WSOP $2,000 No-Limit Hold’em event. His runner-up finish secured him with a payout of $349,142.

Shorr can also be frequently spotted at the tables of the EPT poker festivals held around Europe. His best achievement was his 1st place in the EPT Season 11/ESPT Season 5 Barcelona €5,200 No-Limit Hold’em Turbo 6 Max where he was paid €113,300 for his triumph.

The list of the Alabama-based poker pro’s achievements is quite long. He has cashed in a number of other prestigious events, winning some of those and collecting quite substantial amounts of money.
