The €550 Oktoberfest No-Limit Hold’em or Event #2 in the schedule of this year’s edition of the WSOP Europe was completed late last night. It saw German player Dietrich Fast emerging victorious over the massive field to collect his first-ever WSOP cash of €157,749 and a gold bracelet.
The Oktoberfest event kicked off on October 9. A total of 2,144 entries created a prize pool of €1,039,000. The top 241 finishers received a portion of the money, with payouts starting from €450.
Day 3, the event’s last one, saw nine players returning to play the final table. And it took a little less than 12 hours for the winner to be determined. The final table started with two-time gold bracelet winner John Gale as the chip leader with a total of 2,892,000 in chips. He was followed by Rodrigo Caprioli with 2,394,000 and Steve O’Dwyer with 2,231,000. Fast was fourth in chips at the beginning of the day.
Eventually, Fast had to face Gale heads-up. The match lasted 108 hands and the chips swung back and forth for four and a half hours. On what turned out to be the final hand in play, Fast bet 420,000 pre-flop and his opponent moved all in. The eventual winner called instantly. Gale held [Kc][6c] against Fast’s [As][Jc]. The board ran out [7h][3h][Jh][Jd][Qs], thus securing the German with trip jacks.
As for Gale, he had to content with the 2nd place in the event and a consolation prize of €97,804. The British player won his second gold bracelet at this year’s edition of the WSOP.
Rodrigo Caprioli from Brazil finished 3rd in the Oktoberfest event. His payout amounted to €73,699. Vojtech Cervinka from the Czech Republic took 4th place for €56,278. This was his first-ever WSOP cash.
Steve O’Dwyer from the United States received €43,409 for finishing 5th. So far, the player has 16 WSOP cashes. Adrian Apmann from Austria took 6th place to scoop the amount of €33,808 of the entire prize pool.
Sandro Wüest from Switzerland finished 7th and collected €26,587 for his efforts. German Jörn Henrik Winter took 8th place in the event for a payout of €21,115. Harry Lodge from the United Kingdom received €16,935 for finishing 9th in the Oktoberfest event.
With Event #2 in the schedule being completed, there are eight more gold bracelets up for grabs. The WSOP Europe will continue at Spielbank Berlin up to October 24.
