The Poker Brat, as he is often referred to as, is an absolute record-breaker in the number of WSOP gold bracelets won. So far, he has collected fourteen gold pieces and is one of the few players in the history of poker to have won both the WSOP and WSOP Europe Main Events.
Up to now, Hellmuth has cashed in as many as 115 WSOP events. His WSOP earnings currently amount to $13,536,370, which makes him one of the most profitable players in the history of the Series.
Commenting on his elimination, the poker pro said that although he started the day relatively well – with 75 big blinds – he lost some really weird hands and eventually had to leave the tables of the prestigious event.
Hellmuth was eliminated in Level 6, the last one for the evening. On what turned out to be his last hand, he called all in pre-flop and Akin Tuna called as well. Both Tuna and Keven Stammen checked down the board [As][10d][8s][10h][Jh] and Hellmuth tabled [Qd][Qs] against Tuna’s [Ad][7d].
The Poker Brat was not the only notable to be eliminated during Day 1B of the Main Event. Poker pros Anthony Zinno, Ivan Luca, Mukul Pahuja, Ole Schemion, Mustapha Kanit were also among those who failed to bag up chips and return for Day 2.
Day 1B was completed with 127 surviving players. They will be returning today together with the 57 hopefuls from Day 1A, which means that at least 184 players will seat at the tables of Spielbank Berlin. However, registration is open up until the beginning of play, which gives the chance for more people to join the survivors from the previous two starting days.
The Main Event will run through October 24 when the official nine-handed final table will be played. The prize pool will probably be announced later today, once registration is closed.
