Studio City Opens Doors on Macau’s Cotai Strip

Events & Reports

Studio City, the $3.2-billion integrated hotel and casino resort, which many believe would completely restate the concept of entertainment, is set to open doors today.

The multi-billion-dollar complex is product of the collaboration between gambling operators Crown Resorts and Melco International Development. Melco Crown, as the joint entity is referred to, hopes that the wide variety of options its Hollywood-themed Studio City integrated resort will offer will turn the complex and Macau as a whole into an even more desirable tourist destination.

With gaming revenue falling for months now, the city government has pointed out that it should become less reliant on its gambling industry and look for other ways to attract wealthy customers from the Asia-Pacific region and the rest of the world.

As part of this strategy, Studio City was recently granted an approval to feature only 250 gaming tables at its casino floor. Originally, the gambling venue at the integrated resort was to operate at least 400 gaming tables. Apart from baccarat, blackjack, roulette, and other traditional and not so traditional table games, players at Studio City will also be able to play at a total of 1,233 slot machines.

As for the non-gaming options Macau’s newest integrated resort will feature, there will be a wide variety of those. Melco Crown has previously pointed out that it would like to establish a venue that would provide all kinds of entertainment and would be alluring to different groups of customers.

The Golden Reel, placed between the resort’s two hotel towers, the one-of-a-kind Batman Dark Flight 4D ride, the family-friendly attraction Warner Bros. Fun Zone, the House of Magic, designed by the internationally recognized illusionist Franz Harary, are only a small portion of the entertainment options that the venue will offer.

Commenting on the upcoming Grand Opening of the luxury complex, Jay Dee Clayton, Property President of Studio City, said that it is their main goal to make Macau “an international must-see entertainment destination.”

But apart from the numerous entertainment options, the integrated resort will also feature a number of dining ones, with some of the world’s most popular chefs opening restaurants at the property. Studio City’s roster of recognized chefs includes Chef Pâtissier Pierre Hermé, Chef Hidemasa Yamamoto, Michelin-starred Chef Alain Ducasse, etc. They will all host a Grand Opening Gala Dinner as part of the opening ceremony.

Here it is also important to note that the Grand Opening will be attended by Hollywood actors Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio as well as an Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese. The renowned director is behind The Audition, a $70-million ad, starring De Niro, DiCaprio, and Brad Pitt, created to promote the luxury complex. The feature has been called the most expensive ad ever produced. It will be screened at the Grand Opening today.
