André Wilsenach, Executive Director of the Alderney Gambling Control Commission, announced today that he is stepping down from his post in order to devote his attention to his new position as head of the International Center for Gaming Regulation at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Officials for the Alderney-based gambling regulator thanked Mr. Wilsenach for his contribution to the island’s gaming operations, pointing out that it was during his tenure that the jurisdiction established itself as a major industry authority.
Commenting on the Executive Director’s departure, Lord Richard Falconer, Chairman of the Alderney Gambling Control Commission, said that they are really sorry that Mr. Wilsenach is to leave his post after 14 years at the commission. Yet, the regulator’s Chairman noted that they are happy with the fact that the University of Nevada, Las Vegas has chosen him among so many industry experts to take charge of such “a highly prestigious academic center.”
Lord Falconer further pointed out that Mr. Wilsenach is in excellent shape and will most certainly be able to overcome all kinds of challenges that he may face in future. The name of his successor at the gambling commission is to be announced soon.
Mr. Wilsenach himself said that the decision to leave the Alderney regulator was an extremely difficult one, especially given the years spent there. The executive added that he is proud with the jurisdiction’s current status and that he is leaving the Alderney Gambling Control Commission in the hands of “professional and capable” leaders.
Commenting on his new position, Mr. Wilsenach explained that he has been given the exciting opportunity to apply the knowledge and experience he has gathered while regulating both land-based and online gambling operations and promoting regulatory practices around the globe. The official further noted that he is really happy with the chance to work at the International Center for Gaming Regulation, located nowhere else but in Las Vegas, which has long been referred to as the capital of the gaming industry.
The Alderney Gambling Control Commission was established in 2000. Since then, it has been responsible for the regulation of Internet gambling on behalf of the States of Alderney. The commission has repeatedly pointed out that its main goal is to meet the highest international standards in regulating the constantly growing online gaming market.
