The 2015 partypoker World Poker Tour Prague €3,300 Main Event was concluded on Sunday with Spanish poker player Javier Gomez capturing the title, the first-place prize of €175,000, and a $15,400 seat in the season-ending WPT Tournament of Champions.
The €3,300 Main Event kicked off on December 1 and featured two starting flights and four more days of play. It attracted as many as 256 entries who generated a prize pool of €712,053. The top 27 finishers received their share of the money, with lowest payouts worth €6005.
Day 5 of the event saw six finalists returning to play down to a winner. Six-handed action started with Bulgarian player Fahredin Mustafov as the chip leader and Danish poker pro Henrik Hecklen as the short stack. And Hecklen was in fact the first to go. The player was eliminated in 6th place by Gomez. The Danish pro took home €34,100 for his efforts.
Abdelkader Benhalima from Algeria was the next to go. The player was busted in 5th place by Gomez. His payout from the tournament amounted to €43,000. Benhalima’s elimination gave the eventual champion a big chip lead at that time. In fact, Gomez managed to maintain his lead up until deep into the two-handed match.
Portuguese Pedro Marques finished 4th in the WPT Prague Main Event. He, too, fell victim to the soon-to-be-champion. Marques collected the amount of €57,400. Mustafov was the next to leave the final table after he could not make it against Gomez. The Bulgarian scooped €77,500 for his 3rd place in the tournament.
Play from six down to two took a total of 74 hands. As for the heads-up match between Gomez and Pavel Plesuv from Moldova, it took more than four hours and 138 hands of play before the winner was determined. At the beginning of the two-handed match, Gomez had 6.2 million in chips against Plesuv’s 1.4 million. The latter managed to take the lead at some point. Then, chips swung back and forth for quite some time.
Hand #212 turned out to be the last one in play. Plesuv went all in for his last 1.38 million and Gomez called instantly. Plesuv tabled [Ac][3s] against his opponent’s [Ax][10c]. The board ran out [6d][5c][Ks][5s][2d] and the name of the winner was clear. Plesuv, on the other hand, received a consolation prize of €120,000.
Last night’s cash was Gomez’s second largest ever. Earlier this year, the player finished 5th in the inaugural EPT Malta €5,300 Main Event for a payout of €205,300.
