American poker pro Byron Kaverman has been topping the GPI Player of the Year ranking for six weeks now. The player has accumulated a total of 4,736.90 points since the beginning of the year. However, his reign may come to an end really soon, as Irish player Steve O’Dwyer topped the field of a major high roller tournament to collect a large amount of points that would likely place him before Kaverman in the traditional Wednesday update of the leaderboard.

After the latest update of the GPI Player of the Year, O’Dwyer had a total of 4,333.58 points and ranked 4th. However, the player won the EPT Season 12 Prague €50,000 Super High Roller 8-Handed late on Thursday for a first-place prize of €746,543 and 482.53 points. Now, the Irishman has 4,816.11 points and has every chance to top the ranking on Wednesday and even to be crowned this year’s Player of the Year.

The past eleven and a half months have been quite successful for the professional poker player. In fact, 2015 has been O’Dwyer’s most profitable year since the beginning of his career. The player has collected close to $5 million since January.

The Irish poker pro took down the first high roller tournament for the year. In January, he topped the field of the PCA $100,000 Super High Roller 8-Handed for a payout of $1,872,580. And he has demonstrated excellent performance in a number of other high roller events over the past year. In May, the player finished 3rd in the EPT Season 11 Grand Final €25,500 High Roller 8-Handed for €528,700.

In August, he took 7th place in the EPT Season 12 Barcelona €50,000 Super High Roller 8-Max to collect a payout of €221,000. In October, O’Dwyer bested the field of the EPT Season 12 Malta €10,200 High Roller 8-Handed for a first-place prize of €327,030. Last month, the Irish player finished 4th in the APPT ACOP Macau HK$500,000 Super High Roller and received HK$2,666,000 for his efforts.

Apart from his excellent performance at high roller events, the player has collected numerous cashes from other prestigious tournaments over the past eleven and a half months. And following his latest victory, his live tournament earnings now amount to a little more than $12 million.

After the latest update of the GPI leaderboard, the player now ranks 4th with 3,811.83 points. That ranking, too, has been topped by Byron Kaverman for 11 consecutive weeks now.
