Following a career win at WPT Alpha8 Las Vegas, German poker pro Fedor Holz climbed 14 positions in GPI to reach top 10 of the leaderboard for the very first time. The young player now ranks 10th with a total of 3,632.87 points. What is more, his triumph in Las Vegas also secured him with a 5th place in the GPI Player of the Year. So far, Holz has collected 4,260.13 points.

The young German has turned into some sort of a sensation over the past year, winning the World Championship of Online Poker for over $1.3 million and making particularly good impression on the live circuit. In the past twelve months, Holz won a prestigious WPT event and appeared at the final tables of several EPT High Roller events. Following his success on the felt, he collected a little less than $4 million in 2015.

It was only a week ago, when the German player topped the field of the WPT Alpha8 Las Vegas for a first-place prize of $1,589,219, his biggest live cash so far. In April, he finished 7th in the EPT Grand Final €100,000 Super High Roller for a payout of €337,500. A few days later, he took 4th place in the EPT Grand Final €50,000 High Roller 8-Handed to scoop €329,800 of the prize pool.

In 2015, Holz also made his debut on the WSOP scene. Although he did not win a gold bracelet during this year’s edition of the Series, he came really close to a win. The player finished 3rd in the $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em 6-Handed Championship for $268,463. He also performed quite well in the Main Event, taking 25th place to collect the amount of $262,574.

And it seems that the player has big plans for 2016, as well. He is to start the new year with a seat into the first-ever WPT National Philippines $200,000 Triton SHR Series – Cali Cup, the event with the highest buy-in in the WPT history. On January 3-4, Holz is to join Phil Ivey, Sam Trickett, Paul Phua, and other popular high rollers to contend for what would be a considerable first-place prize and the honor to be the champion of the inaugural $200,000 Super High Roller.

On a broader note, American poker professional Byron Kaverman still tops both the GPI and GPI Player of the Year rankings after their traditional Wednesday updates with a total of 4,248.73 points and 4,736.90 points, respectively. And as it seems, he is likely to be crowned this year’s Player of the Year.
