Daniel Negreanu Sets 2016 Poker Goals

Lifestyle

Apart from being one of the world’s most successful poker professionals and one of the most active ambassadors, working for the growth and popularization of the game, Daniel Negreanu is also an occasional blogger. The player is one of the rare breed of people to have an opinion on all kinds of matters and is not afraid to share it with peers, fans, and the rest of the world.

In his latest blog entry, Negreanu looked back at his performance in 2015 and set his goals for 2016. The Canadian poker pro posted a similar entry about this time last year. Here is what he managed to achieve and what he failed to do in 2015 as well as his plans for 2016.

The first goal that the player set before himself for 2015 was to collect at least $2 million in live tournament earnings. He performed more than well as he scooped a total of $2,482,479 in the past 12 months. A major contribution to achieving his goal was his 11th place in the WSOP Main Event. Negreanu cashed $526,778 for his best Main Event finish ever.

The player promised himself to cash no less than $2.5 million in 2016. Yet, he pointed out that he would miss the 2016 edition of the Aussie Millions poker festival, which has always provided players with excellent opportunity for some early cash.

In his 2015 blog entry, Negreanu said that he would do his best to take part in no more than 55 tournaments and to cash in 12 of those. In the past 12 months, he actually appeared at the tables of 49 different poker events and cashed in 11 of them. For 2016, he promised himself to enter at least 55 tournaments and to cash in no less than 12 of those.

Another goal he missed to achieve was the one saying that he would make at least 5 final table appearances. The player came just shy with 4 final tables this year. Negreanu set the same goal for the new year and seems to be quite determined to achieve it this time.

Another ambitious plan the Canadian poker pro had for 2015 was to win 3 WSOP gold bracelets. However, he failed to achieve it. Yet, the player said that he will try harder in 2016.

Every self-respecting poker pro finds poker rankings quite important and Negreanu is not an exception. He promised himself that he would move up from 5th to 3rd place in the WSOP All-Time Cash list and would maintain his 3rd position in the WSOP All-Time Money one. He could not manage to achieve the first goal and now ranks 4th in the Series’ cash ranking with 83 cashes. As for the second goal, he really maintained his 3rd position and is now determined to move to 2nd place in 2016.

And speaking of rankings, Negreanu wanted to finish 2015 in top 10 of the GPI leaderboard. Given the fact that he was not that active on the felt and cashed in a total of 11 events, he could not fulfill that goal. The player wrote in his blog that he would do his best to return to the ranking’s top 10 in 2016 and to maintain his position throughout the year.

Last but not least, Negreanu promised himself that he would play 200 hours of cash games and that he would strive to winning at least $250,000 in those. The player used to play mixed games at Las Vegas’ Bellagio and is now willing to see how he would perform against “some young blood.”
