Less than a month after he topped the field of the WPT Alpha8 Las Vegas for more than $1.5 million, 22-year-old German poker pro Fedor Holz started 2016 with another major victory. The player won the inaugural WPT National Philippines $200,000 Triton SHR Series – Cali Cup to collect the amount of $3,463,500 as well as an exclusive Aurae Solid Gold MasterCard preloaded with $10,000.

Unsurprisingly, winning the Super High Roller event was not an easy task. Holz had to face some of the world’s most prominent high rollers, with Phil Ivey, Dan Colman, Steve O’Dwyer, Mike McDonald being only few of his opponents at the tables.

The two-day $200,000 Super High Roller, the most expensive tournament in the WPT history, was held as part of the WPT National Philippines schedule. Solaire Resort and Casino in Manila played host to the event, which attracted a field of 52 entries. They generated a prize pool of more than $10 million and the top eight finishers collected a share of the money, with payouts starting from $351,320.

Day 2 of the event started with 33 players sitting at the tables of Solaire Casino. Chinese poker player Stanley Choi turned out to be the bubble boy. He was eliminated in 9th place to secure the remaining eight participants with a portion of the prize pool. The official six-handed final table started with Phil Ivey as the chip leader. The player held about 20% of all chips in play.

Dan Colman was the first to leave the final table. The player collected $502,000 for finishing 6th in the tournament. Despite his lead at the beginning of six-handed action, Ivey could not make it against Holz and was eliminated in 5th place. His share of the prize pool amounted to $656,500.

Soon after, the young German took the lead and managed to maintain it until the very end. He eliminated Irish poker pro Steve O’Dwyer in 4th place. The latter took home the amount of $953,700. At the time when the Irishman left the table, Holz was holding about 70% of all chips in play. In less than 30 hands, he emerged victorious over Devan Tang, who finished 3rd for $1,405,000, and David Peters, who collected $2,309,000 for finishing runner-up to the German.

Following last night’s victory, Holz’s live tournament earnings now amount to more than $7.3 million. The young player is next expected to be seen at the tables of the upcoming PCA and Aussie Millions poker festivals.
