The Seminole Lucky Hearts World Poker Tour DeepStacks $1,100 Main Event, which took place in the Seminole Hard Rock in South Florida, attracted a total of 1,684 entrants. After three days of play, it was Salomon Ponte who triumphed and captured the amount of $341,420 as well as the WPTDeepStacks Championship package.
This was the first major tournament Ponte won. The 26-year-old Canadian has had only three cashes in his professional poker career. Speaking of the latest poker event Ponte took part in, he started the final day as a chip leader. Soon after Day 3 has started, Ponte eliminated Paul Balzano who was sent to the 9th position and received $27,390 for his efforts.
It did not take long before Ponte managed to eliminate yet another player – Zack Goodman, who occupied the 8th position and captured $31,630 of the accumulated prize pool.
Ryan D’Angelo was considered one of the most experienced and difficult to defeat players but he was sent to the 7th place and got an award of $48,260.
Michael Larocca was the next to be eliminated, followed by Kenneth Watson. They occupied the 6th and the 5th position, respectively.
Harrison Gimbel, best known for his participation in the 2010 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, was the next to go. He fell in a fourth position and collected a total of $93,915.
Thong Ho was the player who occupied the third position and he was awarded $139,730 of the accumulated prize pool. His elimination put the beginning of heads-up play between Ponte and Ed Mallon.
At that time, Ponte was the chip leader. As for the final hand, it took place in 38th Level where Mallon limped. He called off as soon as Ponte shoved. Mallon paired one on the [Kd][9d][3c]
flop but his attempt to stay alive proved unsuccessful as Ponte also paired a king. In order to have a chance to become a champion, Mallon needed a nine on the river, but unfortunately, the [4h]
blanked, Mallon captured the amount of $192,885 for his second position and Ponte was declared the winner.
