The latest update of the GPI ranking shows Steve O’Dwyer still at the top. The player has remained first for a fourth consecutive week with a total of 4,271.58 points. Byron Kaverman moved up to take 2nd place this week with 4,236.76 points. Jason Mercier dropped one position and is now taking 3rd place with 4,138.03 points.
Following quite a successful first month of the year, American Connor Drinan entered top 10 of the leaderboard for the very first time in his career. He ranks 10th this week with 3,689.09 points collected over the past 36 months. Drinan’s current position is to a great extent due to his second-place finish in the 2016 PCA $50,000 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller 8-Handed event for $870,625 and 442.19 GPI points as well as to his fourth-place finish in the 2016 Aussie Millions Poker Championship A$100,000 Challenge for A$441,980 and 278.98 points.
Last November, Drinan took 5th place in the APPT ACOP HK$100,000 Main Event. He collected HK$1,519,000 for his efforts as well as 421.67 GPI points. In fact, last year was the player’s most successful one in terms of live poker winnings as he added almost $4.8 million to his poker bankroll. In July, he took 3rd place in the inaugural $500,000 Super High Roller Bowl to scoop more than $3 million of the huge prize pool of $21.5 million and 239.38 points.
During the first-ever EPT Season 11 Malta, the player finished runner-up to Dzmitry Urbanovich in the €25,500 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller. His share of the prize pool amounted to €397,800 and his second-place finish secured him with 340.21 GPI points. After a 3rd place in the L.A. Poker Classic $50,000 Turbo High Roller, which took place in March 2015, he took home $371,997 and 209.96 points.
Overall, Drinan’s live tournament earnings currently amount to $8,680,548. He has collected those in 54 different events over the span of the past six years. He now ranks 1st in the all time money list of his home state – Illinois, 33rd in the USA all time money list, and 50th in the worldwide one. Most recently, the player finished 3rd in the Aussie Millions Poker Championship A$250,000 Challenge, scooping A$1,021,909 of its prize pool. However, he was not awarded any GPI points for his achievement, as the tournament had only 16 entries.
