January was not a particularly good month for Atlantic City’s gambling venues as those saw revenue decline 3.8% as compared to the figures posted for the same month a year ago. The city’s eight operating casinos generated a total of $197.6 million last month.
Revenue from land-based operations totaled $175.5 million, down 5.6% year-on-year. Turnover from slot machines amounted to $122.9 million, down 2.1% from the $125.5 million reported for the same month a year ago. Table game win decreased 13.1% to $52.6 million.
Proceeds from online gambling, on the other hand, registered a significant increase in the first month of 2016. Those went up 26.5% year-on-year to reach $14.6 million. The amount of $11.6 million was posted for January 2015.
Last month, Bally’s AC reported revenue of $13.9 million, down 12.3% year-on-year. Revenue at the Borgata dropped 7% to $56.7 million. The gambling venue offered both land-based and online gambling options. Revenue from the first amounted to $52.1 million, down 8.8% year-on-year. Internet gambling brought in $4.6 million, representing a 20.7% annual increase.
Revenue at Caesars declined 13.5% in January to $20 million. Caesars Interactive New Jersey, known to be the online gambling arm of the major operator in the state, saw proceeds rise 17.1% to reach $3.2 million.
Golden Nugget reported monthly revenue of $19.2 million, up 4.6%. Casino win increased 5% to reach $16.7 million. Revenue from Internet gambling also went up last month. It totaled $2.5 million, up 1.7% year-on-year.
Harrah’s generated revenue of $27.8 million last month, down 9.6%. Resorts reported an increase of 3.1% in casino win. Revenue amounted to $11.4 million in January. The casino’s online gambling branch posted revenue of $1.4 million. Resorts Digital commenced operations in February 2015 and received a full casino license from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement in August 2015.
Tropicana, which provided both land-based and online gambling options in January, generated overall revenue of $24 million, up 6.6% year-on-year. Land-based casino win increased 5.8% to reach $21.1 million. Internet gambling generated a total of $2.9 million, up 13%. Last but not least, Trump Taj Mahal reported revenue of $12.4 million, up 2.3% as compared to the figures posted for the same month a year ago.
