Erik Seidel Moves Up in the GPI Leaderboard

Lifestyle

There were no changes in top 10 of the GPI leaderboard after its traditional Wednesday update. Irishman Steve O’Dwyer is still ranking first following more than excellent performance in several major tournaments in the past year. The player has a total of 4,271.23 points.

O’Dwyer is followed by last year’s GPI Player of the Year, Byron Kaverman with 4,236.76 points and PokerStars Team Pro Jason Mercier with 4,121.90 points. With the EPT’s Dublin stop currently taking place, changes will most certainly occur in the next update of the prestigious poker ranking.

Top 20 of the GPI leaderboard saw quite a lot of movement. Some players went up, others gave way to their fellows. And Erik Seidel, a name that is well-known in the poker community, will be the focus of today’s article. Most recently, he climbed two positions to rank 14th now with a total of 3,620.67 points.

Seidel had quite a successful start of the year. He had two final tables at high roller events to cash significant shares of their prize pools. In addition, he collected certain GPI points that secured his climb in the leaderboard. First, the player finished 5th in the 2016 PCA $50,000 High Roller 8-Handed for a payout of $301,080 and 332.36 points. Early in February, Seidel took 3rd place in the $25,000 Aria High Roller, which won him the amount of $296,800 and 344.23 points.

The past 36 months (the GPI leaderboard ranks players based on their performance during the past three years) have been quite profitable for the poker pro from New York as he has collected around $10 million over the period. For instance, the player won the EPT Season 11 Grand Final €100,000 Super High Roller, with his share of the prize pool totaling €2,015,000. His triumph also secured him with 383.23 GPI points.

Another major achievement was his 6th place in the 2015 APPT ACOP HK$500,000 Super High Roller for HK$1,696,200 and 256.53 points. And over the past 36 months, Seidel had several more final tables at some of the world’s most prestigious tournaments.

With live tournament winnings of more than $26 million, the player now ranks 2nd in the all-time money list. He has also won the impressive number of 8 WSOP gold bracelets, an achievement that few other players can boast of. With all that said, it is not a surprise that Seidel is considered one of the world’s most successful poker pros of our time.
