Dutch player Robert Soogea was the last man standing in the WPT Amsterdam €6,000 High Roller, a two-day high roller tournament that was completed yesterday. The winner took home the amount of €150,000 for his triumph.
Commenting on his performance, he said that he had to face some really good players during his march to victory. Soogea also added that poker is a tough game and requires a lot of practice but admitted that he does not “do any of that.” Soogea is a businessman and occasional poker player. He said that he plays the game only “for relaxation.”
The WPT Amsterdam €6,000 High Roller attracted as many as 97 entries at Holland Casino Amsterdam. The overall prize pool totaled €531,084 and was distributed to the top 12 finishers. Soogea was the chip leader for the greater part of the event’s final day. And the nine-handed final table started with him holding the lead over his opponents. However, it was fellow countryman Fatih Aydin who was the most active player during nine-handed action.
Andreas Olympios was the first to leave the final table. His payout amounted to €10,881. Olympios was followed by Geoffrey Mooney. The player took home the amount of €19,905 for his 8th place in the tournament. Patricio Rojas Parra finished 7th, good for €24,894.
Luuk Gleles was then busted in 6th place for €29,883. Diego Zeiter took 5th place for €37,367. The 4th place in the tournament was reserved for Juha Helppi who scooped a total of €49,840 of the entire prize pool. Fatih Aydin, who, as mentioned above, was behind all the major happenings during the final table, eventually took 3rd place in the high roller event. His share of the prize money amounted to €75,815.
At that point, it became clear that Atanas Kavrakov would be the player to face Soogea heads-up. It took more than two hours of play before a champion emerged. As for Kavrakov, he collected €104,917 for his second-place finish.
Eyes are now set on the WPT Amsterdam €3,300 Main Event, which is currently running at Holland Casino and is scheduled to be completed on May 14.
