Casino Malta is currently playing host to a Unibet Open poker festival. Day 2 of the €1,100 Main Event was completed last night with 10 hopefuls bagging up their chips. They are to return today to battle out for the first-place prize of €65,000.
Overall, it could be said that the tournament attracted quite a lot of attention. There were as many as 292 entries to be seating at the tables of Casino Malta. They created a prize pool of €292,000. The top 36 places are to be paid and the lowest payouts amount to €2,000. The money bubble burst on Day 2 of the event, with Cor de Jong becoming the first player to receive a share of the money.
As many as 93 players returned for Day 2 of the Unibet Open Malta Main Event. The players had the task to reach the money and to eventually set the official final table of nine players. And the former did not prove to be that difficult as in the day’s earlier stages players hit the rail one after another in a quick succession. However, an official final table was not set by the end of the day.
Griffin Benger, known for being a commentator for the Global Poker League, was the table boss for the greater part of the day. There were few key hands that the player was not involved in. He had a significant chip advantage at first but towards the end of the day he could not extend his lead and several players caught up with him.
Eventually, it was Dutch player Bas de Laat who finished the day as the chip leader. The player bagged up a total of 1,758,000 in chips. It is interesting to note that he managed to turn from one of the short stacks into a chip leader within minutes by busting two players one after the other. Laat is better known for his online accomplishments.
As mentioned above, the players were to set the official final table on Day 2 of the event. However, after 10 levels of play organizers decided to call it a day with 10 remaining survivors. The players are to return today at 1 pm local time at Casino Malta to determine the eventual champion.
