News

Playtech revealed the name of the new Chief Policy Officer. This is Francesco Rodano who left the Italian gaming regulator Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli (AAMS) to join the online gambling giant.

Rodano will be responsible for providing Playtech with accurate information about the legislative hurdles they are likely to encounter in the different countries. He will also be in charge of developing and maintaining ongoing relationships with the legislative bodies in these countries, finding new customers and strengthening the relations with the existing stakeholders.

Rodano, who will work from the London-based office, will report directly to Mor Weizer, Playtech’s CEO. The latter commented on Rodano’s appointment and said that his vast experience, as well as his personal qualities, give Rodano all chances of becoming an important figure on the online gambling scene. Mr. Weizer remained hopeful that the Italian will become an invaluable asset for Playtech and did not hide his excitement that namely Rodano was appointed to the key post.

Last year, Rodano was offered a Senior Director of Market Strategies and Development position with yet another prominent developer of online gambling products – IGT. At that time, he worked for Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli. Instead of leaving the agency, he decided to see out the remainder of his contract with AAMS before taking up another career journey.

At the time Rodano was working for the regulator, he put a lot of efforts towards the liberalisation of the Italian gambling market. He was in charge of overseeing the activities of the sports betting operators, granted the right to operate on the territory of Italy. He was also responsible for monitoring the addition of regulated slots to the casino vertical.

Back in 2008 and 2011, he was also overseeing the introduction of the online gambling options. The online gambling legalization attracted a great number of licensees and made the Italian gambling sector the second largest in Europe, generating annual revenues of more than €800 million.

Rodano himself commented on his appointment as a Chief Policy Officer at Playtech and shared that he was happy to be on the other side of the fence after spending the last nine years working as a regulator. He also added that currently, the regulated markets were of paramount priority and he was impatient to join the talented management team of Playtech and provide his support as far as public policy matters were concerned.
