Aquis Entertainment to Expand Casino Canberra

News

Australian casino operator Aquis Entertainment is working with the government of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) on a plan for the A$307-million expansion and redevelopment of Casino Canberra.

Under the proposed plan, the gambling venue is to be turned into an integrated casino resort that is aimed to expand and diversify leisure and entertainment options in the region.

Aquis Entertainment had formerly presented the ACT government with its intention. With the plan being approved by local officials, the gambling operator was asked to submit a business case with more details about the redevelopment project.

Generally speaking, Aquis Entertainment aims at expanding the existing casino and adding two new hotels as well as other amenities. The whole project was valued at A$307 million. Luxury restaurants, bars, and a shopping mall will be among those other developments to be added to the potential future integrated resort at the heart of Australia’s capital city.

The casino operator has said that if implemented, the redevelopment project may result in up to 617,000 new customers visiting the resort. In addition, apart from local gambling patrons, who are currently the predominant customers at Casino Canberra, more interstate and international ones may be attracted with the complex being redeveloped and expanded.

Aquis Entertainment acquired Casino Canberra last year. The property was closed up until recently and the amount of A$14 million was invested in its refurbishment. COX – Architecture, known to be one of the largest architectural firms in Australia, worked on the venue’s new look.

The casino has seen its gaming floor and its VIP gaming salon enhanced with new features for gambling customers. Among other things, new gaming machines and related equipment have been installed. It is also interesting to note that Casino Canberra now features ACT’s first live stadium gaming experience. As many as 50 gaming terminals have been added to the gaming floor in order for the new offering to become available to patrons from the area as well as to ones from other states and countries. A new poker lounge is also to be launched later in June.

Non-gaming offerings have also been added to the refurbished casino complex, with those being Onyx Lounge, The Chandelier Bar, and a Natural 9 restaurant.
