Atlantic City Casino Revenue Down 1.2% in June

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement posted the traditional monthly report containing information about the financial performance of the state’s eight operational casinos and their Internet gambling arms. Under the current New Jersey gaming regulations, Atlantic City is the only place where casino gambling can be provided.

Overall revenue amounted to $213.9 million in June, down 1.2% from the $216.5 million reported for the same month of the previous year. Revenue from Atlantic City’s eight casinos totaled $197.5 million, reflecting a 3.6% decrease from the amount of $204.9 million generated in June 2015. Internet gaming win increased 40.6% to reach $16.4 million. In comparison, online gaming revenue amounted to $11.7 million in June of the previous year.

During the first half of 2016, total gaming win amounted to $1.25 billion, reflecting a 2.5% increase from what was generated in the same period a year ago. Casino revenue rose 0.6% and totaled $1.15 billion. Internet gambling generated the total amount of $94.8 million, up 31.7% from the previous year. The considerable growth in online gaming proceeds could mainly be attributed to the fact that PokerStars launched online poker and other casino games with Atlantic City’s Resorts Casino back in March 2016.

As already mentioned, there are eight casinos in Atlantic City and five of these are providing online gambling options. Bally’s reported revenue of $16.9 million for June, down 3.1% as compared to the figure posted for the same month of 2015. Revenue at Borgata amounted to $59.8 million last month. Casino operations generated $56 million and Internet gambling contributed $3.8 million to the overall figure.

Revenue at Caesars dropped 10.6% in June to reach $25.2 million. It online gambling arm – Caesars Interactive NJ, generated a total of $3 million, up 15.4% year-on-year. Golden Nugget reported a 2.2% drop in its June revenue to $19.2 million. Proceeds from casino operations amounted to $15.7 million. Internet gambling generated a total of $3.5 million.

Revenue at Harrah’s amounted to $27.8 million, down 12.7% as compared to the figure reported for June 2015. Resorts generated a total of $15 million last month, reflecting a 9.8% increase. Revenue from Resorts Digital totaled $2.7 million.

Tropicana posted overall revenue of $27 million, down 0.7% year-on-year. Land-based operations contributed $23.6 million. Internet gambling revenue totaled $3.3 million. Trump Taj Mahal generated $17.3 million, reflecting a 13.2% growth as compared to June 2015. Workers at the emblematic casino went out on strike early in July, voicing their discontent with owner’s unwillingness to provide them with what they consider fair health insurance and pension packages.
