Finishing 50th in the 2016 WSOP $10,000 Main Event, American poker professional Anthony Gregg improved his position in the GPI Player of the Year race, the ranking’s traditional Wednesday update showed. Gregg is currently taking 11th place, the highest one he has taken since entering the leaderboard. The player has accumulated a total of 2,605.30 points since the beginning of the year.
Unlike the GPI ranking, which takes a player’s best results from six six-month periods and compares them with other players’ results, the GPI Player of the Year compares players’ results from the current calendar year.
It could be said that Gregg was off to a good start of 2016 as he finished 2nd in the 2016 PCA $5,300 Main Event. His runner-up finish secured him with a payout of $612,175 and 494.55 points for the GPI Player of the Year race. A third-place finish in the Aria High Roller XXV was his next bigger poker achievement for the year. The player took home the amount of $127,680 for his deep run into the $25,000 buy-in tournament and added 203.01 points for his GPI PoY score.
The next Aria High Roller event brought Gregg $86,400 and 195.74 points as the player finished 4th in it. He also collected a nice payout from the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star $7,500 Main Event where he finished 7th for $138,720 and 352.65 points.
Apart from the highly popular $25,000 High Roller tournaments, Aria Resort & Casino is also known for occasionally holding $50,000 Super High Roller ones. In May, Gregg finished runner-up to Timofey Kuznetsov in the seventh such event to have taken place at the popular gambling venue. The player scooped $671,394 for his performance. Gregg’s second-place finish in the event also secured him with 257.58 points.
Most recently, he took 4th place in the Bellagio High Roller VII for $120,960 and 217.83 points and, as already mentioned, he finished 50th in the WSOP Main Event. Gregg’s payout from the prestigious tournament totaled $142,447. He also added 295.78 points to his score.
Overall, the player has $11.8 million in live tournament winnings. Gregg is best known for topping the field of the 2013 WSOP $111,111 One Drop High Roller event. Apart from capturing his first-ever gold bracelet, the player also scooped his career best cash of $4.8 million.
