Table Allocation at Macau’s New Casino Resorts Yet to Be Determined

News

Macau’s Secretary for Economy and Finance Lionel Leong Vai Tac told local media that the government has not decided how many new-to-market gaming tables will be allocated to Wynn Palace and The Parisian Macao, the two gambling resorts set to open doors on the Cotai Strip in August and September, respectively.

Mr. Leong’s comments followed the publication of Wynn Resorts’ financial report for this year’s second quarter, in which the major casino operator said that it expected to be granted initial approval for the addition of up to 100 new gaming tables at its new gambling property. According to the company, Macau’s government would later on allocate more live dealer tables to the complex.

When asked about more information on the matter, the city’s Secretary for Economy and Finance said that they have received applications by Wynn Resorts and Sands China, the casino concessionaire behind The Parisian Macao, just recently and that they would need a bit more time to review, analyze, and decide on the exact number of new-to-market tables to be granted to the two integrated resorts.

Wynn Resorts said in its Q2 report that if it is granted 100 new gaming tables, it will relocate about 250 tables from its Wynn Macau casino. Thus, Wynn Palace will be launched with 350 tables, while Wynn Macau will have 270 of them left. Wynn Palace is scheduled to open doors for visitors on August 22.

According to people with knowledge of the matter, Macau officials will grant a total of 250 new-to-market gaming tables to the two new resorts, just as they did with Galaxy Macau Phase 2 and Studio City. The two integrated resorts, which opened doors last year, were allowed to add their allocated tables in phases and not all at once.

Earlier this week, Sands China CEO and Chairman Sheldon Adelson told media that he has not been informed as to how many new-to-market tables would be allocated to The Parisian Macao but that they have enough from their other properties across Macau and would relocate some of those to the new gambling venue, if need be. Sands China’s latest integrated resort on the Cotai Strip is set to open doors on September 13.
