Atlantic City Casino Revenue Up 6.9% in July

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement reported on Friday the financial results of the state’s eight land-based casinos and their online gambling arms in July. New Internet gambling revenue record could be noted as the biggest highlight for the previous month.

Overall gaming win or revenue amounted to $275.3 million in July, reflecting a 6.9% increase from the amount of $257.5 million generated in July 2015. Revenue from land-based casino operations totaled $257.9 million in July, up 5.3% from the $245 million reported for the same month of 2015. Internet gambling increased 38.6% year-on-year to a record of $17.4 million.

Atlantic City is the only place in New Jersey where casino gambling is legal. There are eight operational casinos in the city but the status quo will very soon change as it was announced earlier this month that Trump Taj Mahal will close doors this October.

Bally’s AC generated revenue of $21.7 million in July, down 4.8% year-on-year. Borgata, which as previously reported by Casino News Daily is now wholly owned by MGM Resorts International, was once again the top performer in terms of monthly revenue reported. The gambling venue generated a total of $84.8 million, up 12.1% from the same month of the previous year. Land-based operations contributed $80.8 million to the overall figure posted. Internet gambling revenue totaled just a little less than $4 million.

Revenue at Caesars totaled $31.2 million last month, reflecting an increase of 7.6% from the same month of the previous year. Caesars Interactive New Jersey, the gambling operator’s local online casino arm, generated a total of $3.4 million in July, up 27% year-on-year.

Golden Nugget reported monthly revenue of $25.1 million in July, up 9.7% as compared to its performance during the same month of 2015. Land-based casino operations generated a total of $21.3 million. Internet gambling contributed $3.7 million last month. On Thursday, the casino said that it has boosted its online gambling offering by becoming the first New Jersey (and US) operator to offer online live dealer gaming options. Golden Nugget’s casino website now features live dealer blackjack, roulette, and baccarat as a result from its partnership with live dealer casino platform Ezugi.

Revenue at Harrah’s dropped 5.2% last month to $34.2 million. Resorts reported a 6.2% increase in revenue to $17.9 million. Resorts Digital, the casino’s online gambling division, generated $3.1 million in July.

At Tropicana, revenue amounted to $36.4 million, reflecting a 14.2% growth year-on-year. Land-based casino offering contributed $33.2 million to the overall figure reported while online casino operations contributed $3.2 million. Last but not least, Trump Taj Mahal posted revenue decrease of 8.2% as compared to its performance in July 2015. The casino generated a total of $17.5 million last month.

As mentioned above, New Jersey’s online gambling operations hit a new record high in July. The amount of $17.4 million was generated last month. A breakdown of that figure shows that online poker increased 6.7% year-on-year to contribute $2 million. Casino games rose 44.2% year-on-year to $15.3 million.

There are three poker products to be served to local online gambling customers. PokerStars, which launched in the state in March, was the top earner with a total of $754,000. Caesars Interactive Entertainment gained $650,000 from its operations in New Jersey, and GVC Holdings’ partypoker brand generated an approximate of $608,000.
