Sebastian Malec Emerges as EPT Season 13 Barcelona €5,300 Main Event Day 4 Chip Leader

The record field of the EPT Season 13 Barcelona €5,300 Main Event was reduced from the initial overall of 1,785 entries to just 24 hopefuls (or three tables) left to contend for the first-place prize, the tournament trophy, and the prestige that comes along with that accomplishment.

Day 4 of the event was played on Friday, kicking off with 98 players. Action developed quite quickly and by the end of Level 1, there were 75 survivors left at the Casino Barcelona poker tables. As mentioned above, this year’s EPT Barcelona Main Event attracted a record number of entries who eventually generated a prize pool of almost €9 million. The winner will become €1,122,800 richer.

Prominent poker professionals like Jason Mercier, Byron Kaverman, and Eugene Katchalov were among those who could not make it through Day 4 of the tournament. They all left with a nice payout but were denied the chance to add another title to their portfolios; and all three of them certainly have a lot to brag about when it comes to their poker achievements.

The tournament’s fourth day was completed with Poland’s Sebastian Malec as the chip leader. The player made quite a performance throughout the twelve hours of play on Day 4 and that paid out well. Late on Friday, Malec bagged and tagged a total of 5,690,000 in chips.

The Pole is followed by Uri Reichenstein from Germany with a stack of 3,870,000. As it could be seen, Malec has significant advantage over his remaining opponents and this will certainly give him a good start to Day 5. If the player takes full advantage of the situation, he will have excellent chances to secure a seat at the eight-handed final table.

Day 5 action is slated to start today at noon local time at Casino Barcelona. The 24 remaining players will have to set the official final table. Once this happens, play will stop for the day and the final eight will return at the gambling venue tomorrow to play down to a champion.

It is interesting to note that there are no US players left among the final 24. Yet, popular European tournament regulars like Vojtech Ruzicka and Morten Mortensen will be among those seating at the last three Main Event tables when play begins today.
