He has played against some of the world’s best online players over the course of his career to accumulate online earnings of more than $10 million to date.

Live cash games are also among his specialties. The player is said to be a frequent participant in higher stakes cash games played at King’s Casino in Rozvadov, the Czech Republic, with the venue known to be featuring Europe’s largest poker room.

Cates also has an enviable live tournament career. Although he has not cashed in that many live tournaments, having devoted the greater amount of his time to online poker, the player has collected nearly $3.5 million from his live tournament appearances.

In 2012, Cates took 2nd place in a partypoker Premier League Poker V No-Limit Hold’em event for a total of $300,000. Early in 2014, the player topped the field of the WPT Alpha8 $100,000 No-Limit Hold’em tournament in Johannesurg to collect $500,000 for his performance. Later that year, he finished runner-up to Daniel Colman in the EPT Season 10 Grand Final €100,000 Super High Roller, taking home a payout of €1,283,700, his live tournament career’s largest one.

As mentioned above, Cates will be joining Dzmitry Urbanovich and Marcel Lüske at the poker tables at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Punta Cana, among many other well-known and not-so-well-known poker players. The Caribbean Poker Party is set to kick off on November 19 and to run through November 26.

Players will be able to enter a number of thrilling tournaments, with the $2,750 partypoker Million Tournament with a guaranteed prize pool of $2 million and the WPT Caribbean $5,000 Main Event, featuring a $1-million guarantee, being the ones most deserving to be mentioned.
