Holland Casino Net Income and Operating Profit Up in 2015

Holland Casino, the exclusive license holder for the operation of casinos in the Netherlands, published its financial results for 2015. The operator was licensed by the Dutch government late in 1975. Holland Casino Zandvoort, known to be its first venue, opened doors precisely forty years ago, on October 1, 1976. Holland Casino currently manages 14 casino properties across the Netherlands and is expected to launch its second Amsterdam-based venue next year.

According to the figures posted in its annual report, the operator generated overall net income of €423.2 million in 2015, up from the amount of €384.1 million posted for the previous year. Gross operating profit totaled €69.3 million for the twelve months in review, up considerably from €15.7 million reported for 2014. Profit margin stood at 15.9%, compared to profit margin of 3.1% in 2014.

Holland Casino operates both slot machines and table games. Income from slot machines increased 13.7% year-on-year to reach €294.2 million in 2015. Income from table games amounted to €233.3 million, reflecting a 9.1% rise from the previous year. Here it is important to note that the operator offered 6,011 slot machines at its properties in 2015, compared to a total of 6,037 such devices offered in 2014. There were 424 gaming tables at the venues last year, down from 426 of them in 2014.

The number of total visits increased 6.7% last year to reach 5.8 million. Gambling customers spent an average of €99 per visit in 2015, up from an average of €95 in 2014. Generally speaking, it could be Dutch players are not big spenders when compared to their counterparts from other European countries. According to figures posted by gambling data provider H2 Gambling Capital, the average gambling spend per capita amounts to €163 for Dutch gambling customers. That figure is below the average of €200 posted for the EU as a whole, and way below the €432 posted for Ireland, which tops the ranking.

Overall, the Dutch gambling market was valued at €2.34 billion in 2015, according to a report published on Friday by Kansspelautoriteit, or the Dutch gambling authority. The figure reported reflected an increase of €104 million from the previous year.

The country’s gambling industry is divided into four main sectors – lottery operations, gaming machines, casino gambling, and sports betting. The lottery industry currently holds the biggest market share. Proceeds from that type of gambling services accounts for 46% of the total. The gaming machines sector holds a 42% market share, casinos come next with a 9% share, and sports betting holds a 1% share in the local market.
