We may be seeing less of 2015 GPI Player of the Year Byron Kaverman this year, but that does not mean that the American poker pro has not made some impressive appearances at live tournaments.
Following the latest update of the GPI leaderboard, the player climbed to take a 4th position. Fedor Holz, who occupies the ranking’s top position, followed by Nick Petrangelo and Jason Mercier are the only three players with more points than Kaverman.
The GPI ranking takes into consideration a player’s best results within six six-month periods. Kaverman has accumulated a total of 4,274.55 points over the past 36 months. Last year was particularly successful for the player in terms of live tournament earnings collected. The player won the overall amount of $3,481,493 from some of the most prestigious events that took place in 2015. It is also important to note that he captured his debut gold bracelet at last year’s World Series of Poker.
Of his performance this year, it could be said that Kaverman was less active on the felt over the past nine months. Yet he scored several victories, final table appearances and in-the-money finishes in different live tournaments.
In August, the player won two Aria High Roller tournaments. His first victory secured him with $226,227 in prize money and 395.08 GPI points. The second $25,000 buy-in tournament Kaverman won at Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas just a day later secured the player with a payout of $276,000 and 375.86 points for his GPI score. It could be said that the California-based poker pro is quite fond of the $25,000 high rollers regularly held at Aria and has won several of them over the years. In April, Kaverman finished second in another such event for $256,785 and 237.26 GPI points.
Another noteworthy cash from the past several months was his thirteen-place finish in the EPT Season 12 Grand Final €25,750 High Roller for €92,250 and 344.93 points. The player has also scored in-the-money finishes in WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star, WSOP, and EPT Season 13 Barcelona events since the beginning of 2016.
Kaverman’s entire cash history shows that the player has finished in the money in 86 live tournaments since 2008 and has collected overall live tournament winnings of more than $7.8 million. As mentioned above, the player ranks 4th in the GPI leaderboard after its Wednesday update. He also occupies the 693rd position in the GPI Player of the Year ranking with 1,128.24 points collected since the beginning of the year.
