The GPI Player of the Year top spot has been found particularly comfortable by German poker pro Fedor Holz as he spent there more than six months. However, another prominent professional took over the lead after the ranking’s Wednesday update. David Peters, who has had a terrific run on the live poker circuit over the past several months, is now occupying the top position and has excellent chances to be crowned the 2016 GPI Player of the Year.
Peters, an Ohio-born poker pro, has accumulated a GPI PoY score of 3,666.31 points over the course of 2016. As mentioned above, the player’s year has been particularly successful and profitable, his most profitable one since the beginning of his career. Only in 2016, Peters’ in-the-money finishes in different live tournaments around the year generated more than $7.2 million for his bankroll.
Days ago, the player scored a third-place finish in the last-ever EPT Main Event. The tournament was held in Prague as part of a twelve-day EPT Season 13 Prague poker festival. His cash from the €5,300 Main Event amounted to €397,300. He also added 482.29 points to his GPI PoY score, thus securing his 1st place in the ranking.
Peters enjoyed a particularly nice start of 2016. In January, the player finished runner-up to none other but above-mentioned Holz in the WPT National Philippines $200,000 Triton Super High Roller Series. Peters collected $2,309,000 and 259.39 points for his efforts. That was his career’s best live cash.
As the year progressed, the player kept on adding substantial amounts to his poker bankroll. And it could be said that he had a terrific summer as he took down two major poker tournaments within the span of several days, one of which secured him with a coveted WSOP gold bracelet. While taking part in the 47th annual series in Las Vegas, Peters also dropped by the Bellagio where he topped the field of a $25,000 High Roller event for $393,120 in prize money and 300.60 GPI PoY points.
Several days later, he captured his first-ever WSOP gold bracelet for winning the $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em on the series’ 2016 schedule. His share of the tournament’s prize pool totaled $412,557 and he added 452.45 points to his GPI Player of the Year score.
Including his latest cashes, Peters has so far collected the total amount of $14,555,409, almost half of which was generated this year. The latest GPI update shows that the player is now taking 2nd place with 4,435.53 points accumulated over the past 36 months.
