Erik Seidel Nears Daniel Negreanu in Poker’s All-Time Money List

Lifestyle

To say that Erik Seidel is one of poker’s greatest is not a statement full of exaggerated pathos for he really is among the best contemporary poker players and his extensive portfolio is a proof enough of this. The New York City-born poker pro, now residing in the world’s gambling mecca Las Vegas, boasts victories in some of the largest and most prestigious live tournaments on a global scale and multiple in-the-money finishes. The player was inducted into the WSOP Poker Hall of Fame in 2010 as a recognition to his outstanding career.

Over the year, Seidel has topped numerous lists and rankings and is now close to heading yet another such list – global live tournament poker’s All-Time Money List. Canadian poker pro Daniel Negreanu has been occupying the list’s top position for quite some time with live tournament winnings currently standing at $32,619,169. However, Seidel has done a great job over the past two years, collecting more than $10 million in tournaments around the world and closing in on his fellow poker professional. As this article is being produced, the player’s live winnings amount to $31,013,774.

Seidel’s career spans for three decades and it has not been on rare occasions when his name has made the poker headlines. With his eight WSOP gold bracelets and $5,243,443 in WSOP winnings, the player is among the most successful and prolific ones in the history of the popular series. It is interesting to note that Seidel collected his first WSOP cash ever for finishing runner-up to Johnny Chan in the 1988 WSOP $10,000 Main Event.

Apart from his accomplishments in the WSOP, the player has also won a WPT event in the past and and an EPT €100,000 Super High Roller one, among many others.

Only this year, Seidel accumulated live tournament winnings of $5,108,412. Although the player did not score any live tournament victories over the past twelve months, he was a frequent participant and cashed in some of the major events to have taken place. For instance, he took part in a number of Aria High Rollers, tournaments that have turned into player-favorites over the past several years, and has scored multiple in-the-money finishes.

In other words, if Seidel maintains his momentum in 2017, and it seems he is quite determined to do that, he will certainly overpass Negreanu and take his leading position in poker’s All-Time Money List.
