The first-ever PokerStars Championship Bahamas Super High Roller attracted 41 players and 13 re-entries. That created a prize pool of $5,239,080. The seven finalists will each collect no less than $275,060 for their participation in the event’s final table. The champion will be awarded $1,650,300 for his efforts.
Day 2 play began with Nick Petrangelo as the chip leader. The player’s aggressive play on Day 1 impressed even Daniel Negreanu. And to be praised by a poker pro who has been on the live poker circuit for quite a while is really a feat to be noted. Sharing impressions on Petrangelo’s performance, Negreanu tweeted that he had not seen as aggressive a player for years.
Petrangelo managed to maintain his advantage for a while as Day 2 action progressed. However, Connor Drinan, yet another live tournament regular, snatched the chip lead at a certain point. Drinan’s reign did not last long as he lost a considerable amount of his chips to Dan Colman. Jason Koon took the chip lead shortly after to maintain it until after the dinner break.
There were two tables left to be occupied by players after dinner. As the remaining survivors returned for action, it was UK’s Charlie Carrel to emerge as the chip leader. The young player did not relinquish his advantage until the seven-handed final table was set.
Play will resume today at noon Bahamas time. Carrel will be joined by the likes of Dan Colman, Connor Drinan, and Bryn Kenney, among several more, around the final table. It is interesting to note that Kenney won last year’s PCA $100,000 Super High Roller for a first-place payout of $1,687,800. The player is now certainly looking to a back-to-back victory in the prestigious tournament, although it has changed name since last year.
Here are all seven finalists to what promises to be an action-packed final table:
Charlie Carrel (United Kingdom) – 3,710,000
Dan Colman (United States) – 2,600,000
Jason Koon (United States) – 2,305,000
Daniel Dvoress (Canada) – 1,640,000
Connor Drinan (United States) – 1,455,000
Byron Kaverman (United States) – 970,000
